From this Saturday 22 July to 18 August 2017, the Saatchi Gallery is delighted to present the first UK exhibition of Her Highness Sheikha Khawla Bint Ahmed Bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi’s poetry, Peace and Love, which will feature glowing examples of Andalusian-Arabic calligraphy inspired by her verse.
Her Highness was born into a household that held culture in the highest esteem, as her father was not only the first Minister of Foreign Affairs for the United Arab Emirates, but also the founder of the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation, the first national library and the Theatre and Community Arts Centre of the UAE.
In adult life, Her Highness has continued to flourish creatively, support arts patronage, and display her own works at the side of her husband, H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahayan, the UAE National Security Advisor.
Her poems, song lyrics and witty observations emanate from her wealth of life experience and specialised knowledge. Her Highness writes in a quasi shorthand style, always upholding kind-hearted ethics and pushing for compassionate values. Her message is consistently one of humbleness, philanthropy, conscientiousness, respect, open-mindedness, and of course, love and peace.
